[[What causes someone to talk in their sleep?]]

Does it mean they're dreaming?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Sleep talking usually occurs harmlessly in individuals. Some would think that they are dreaming, but most of the specialists are still not sure if they are really connected to dreams. However, there are instances when the normally harmless conversation and moans turn to screams and grunts. One would then think as to the causes of sleep talking? Is it a medical condition or a superstition?
Sometimes, sleep talking—or shouting—is caused by sleep disorders. Two of these sleep disorders are REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) and sleep terrors. In these cases, it is much advised that you see a sleep specialist for treatment or solution. Sleep terrors on one hand, can cause a person to scream and thrash. RBD, on the other hand, involves shouting, grunting and are often violent.
Other causes of sleep talking are medications, emotional stress, fever, mental health disorder and drug abuse.
