What causes a person to not hear their alarm in the mornings?

When I was still going to school, I always had a problem with waking up in the morning. It's not like I would awaken, turn off my alarm, decide to not go to school, and go back to sleep. I simply did not hear the alarm buzzing. I tried multiple ring tones on my phone, the annoying honking of a clock alarm, all on the loudest setting possible. Why does this happen? Do other people have this problem? Could it perhaps be caused by a sleep disorder? I would like to know what causes this as well as what I can do in the future to be able to wake up when I need to.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I had the same problem for years. I can't diagnose the problem, however, I can tell you what my solution was. Investing in a higher end alarm clock designed to specifically for your problem is worth a shot. This is where I got mine and it has been great
