Hi,
There are so many natural remedies for insomnia, believe me I have tried many. I will share what I have learned. First of all though, I want to remind you to please talk to your doctor before starting anything natural, especially if you are taking prescription drugs as some can interfere with each other.
First off, there are tons of herbs that can help with insomnia. The number one herb is Valerian root which can not only help you fall asleep, but can help you stay asleep. Some of the most popular herbs for sleep are lemon balm, catnip, hops, passion flower and chamomile. Go to http://www.holistic-online.com/remedies/sleep/sleep_insomnia_herbs.htm for more info on herbs and sleep.
Then there are the many OTC sleeping aids as well such as amino acids. 5-htp is a good one for those who have low serotonin. The amino acid Glycine can also be excellent for sleep. There are actually many amino acids that help with sleep. Go to http://www.holistic-online.com/remedies/sleep/sleep_insomnia_herbs.htm for a list of amino acids and what they can do.
Many people do very well sleeping using just plain Benadryl. Benadryl is a sedating anti-histamine that helps many sleep well all throughout the night. Unisom is also another sedating anti-histamine that helps some people sleep through the night.
Truly, the list goes on and on. Here is a good website to go to to help you with sleep hygiene and other natural therapies to help with sleep as well, http://www.professional-counselling.com/natural_sleep_remedies.html#axzz1DNqD5wxP.
The most important thing I learned is that the same thing does not work for everyone. If you haven't found what works for you yet, don't give up, there are many, many options and there is bound to be one that will help you.
