In my humble opinion one should not give a child a sleeping pill in order to make them sleep. It is pretty much always a bad idea to medicate a child when there are alternative options available. You were not specific about the age of the child, so I will go off the general guess that the child may be between 5 and 10 years old.

To me, anyone younger than 5 is considered a baby, and anyone over 10 is considered a youth. :)

Anyway, a child who is between 5 and 10 years old has a super developing brain. They are learning at a race that is only exceeded by their baby counter-parts. After all, these are formative years when they are learning everything from tying their shoes to simple algebra. Their minds are going a mile a minute and sometimes all that input becomes a jumbled up mess in their heads.

Alternatives to sleeping pills to help a child go to sleep can include:

1. Have them do their homework directly after they get home from school.
This will give them the incentive to do it quickly so they can get on to playing or other tiring activities.
2. Do not feed children after 6:30 in the evening if at all possible. Digesting can keep a child awake.
3. Reduce caffeine and sugar intake. Did you know some chocolate has a small amount of caffeine in it?
4. Hot cocoa or tea before bed will help to soothe their minds and help them sleep.
5. A warm bath, maybe with some lavender bubbles, will help calm down their muscles making them sleepy
6. Maintain a consistent and strictly adhered to bedtime.

Make sure your child gets plenty of physical exercise. This will help to remove the spinning education demons that are running around in their heads. The mind does not stop moving because the body is at rest, so the most rest you can give a child's brain an hour before bedtime, the better the child will sleep.

Sometimes a child is just not tired, though. In these situations still send them to bed at their specific bed time, and make sure they know that they are to stay there. Give them a small bedside light and a book, they will calm their minds into sleep as soon as the mind is ready.

No, little kids should not get any pills to get to sleep. Maybe is some extraordinary situations but good doctors should deside that. It could be quite bad for a kid. The effect could be too much to handle and the kid can get some damage
