If you have narcolepsy, does it mean you fall asleep instantly at any random time?

Hi @un42, yes, if a person is suffering from narcolepsy there is a tendency for him to fall asleep in inappropriate or at any random time. Narcolepsy is a chronic sleep disorder which is characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness.
The person usually feel extreme fatigue and can possibly fall asleep while at work or at school. They also experienced disturbed sleeps at night and has an abnormal sleep pattern that is oftentimes confused with insomnia.
They also experience cataplexy which is a sudden weakness of the muscles due to strong emotions. It can be seen as slackening of facial muscles, dropping of the jaw or head, weakness of the knees or the person totally collapses.
Narcolepsy is a neurological disorder and it is not cause by mental illness or any psychological problems. These are commonly due to genetic abnormalities that affect certain parts of the brain.
