Does anyone have any information or experience regarding using Ambien cr versus temazepam?

I've been taking Ambien cr for 60 days, and my Doctor today gave me a prescription for temazepam 15mg as an alternative to Ambien cr. He said it should give me a few more hours of sleep. Ambien cr right now is good for about 5 hours of dead-to-the-world sleep, followed by a few hours of in-and-out sleep. Not very satisfying. Besides, I've taken it longer than I really wanted to. I'm not sure if temazepam is better, the same, or if I'm going from the frying pan into the fire, so to speak.

Any information/comments would be appreciated.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

AmbienCR (zolpidem tartrate extended release) is a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic of the imidazopyridine class. Temazepam is a hypnotic of the benzodiazepine class. Both are hypnotic (induce instant sleep) but different class or group. Doctors usually interchange from AmbienCR to Temazepam or vice versa. Side effects are almost identical (dizziness / drowsiness). It is available in 6.25 mg and 12.5 mg strength tablets for oral administration.

Temazepam is a hypnotic (induce instant sleep) agent. It significantly decreased the sleep disorders but has the drawback of disturb the normal sleep pattern (habit forming). Temazepam is officially indicated for severe insomnia and other severe or disabling sleep disorders.
